How will you be keeping active this National Fitness Day? Whether it’s trying out a new exercise class, taking a dip in the pool, or having a go in the gym, this nationwide campaign is all about inspiring people to move more and enjoy the physical and mental benefits of being active every single day.
With one in four people in England classed as inactive (doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity a week), National Fitness Day is a powerful opportunity to get millions more people moving and support the NHS by improving the nation’s health.
Did you know?
The UK Chief Medical Officers’ Guidelines recommend:
- Adults: At least 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week – or a mix of both.
- Strengthening activities: At least two days a week.
- Reduce sitting: Break up long periods of inactivity.
- Children and young people: At least 60 minutes of activity every day.
Powered by You!
This year’s theme, ‘Powered by You!’, celebrates the role everyone can play, from individuals and communities to businesses, schools and hospitals, in spreading the message about the importance of physical activity.
As more people prioritise their physical and mental wellbeing, National Fitness Day is a chance to celebrate all the ways we can stay active to support our health and quality of life.
Fancy popping along to an NL Active facility?
Here are just a few ways you can get involved locally:
Swimming
Swimming is a fantastic full-body workout that’s gentle on the joints and great for cardiovascular health. It’s also a brilliant way to relax and de-stress. Swimming doesn’t have to be booked in advance, just turn up and visit reception. If you swim more than twice a week an Active Swim membership will save you money.
